Meet the Team –  Jeff Emch

Name: Jeff Emch
Title: VP Operations/Engineering, Licensed Naval Architect
Tenure at MES – Poseidon: Since October 2009

Jeff Emch is a people person. Sitting down to discuss their challenges and assisting them in finding solutions is something that almost doesn’t seem like work to Emch. “Helping people succeed personally or professionally is something that I have always enjoyed.” This mentality shows as Jeff worked to build an Engineering team to lead the industry in total project solutions for the customer.  “It takes a team to be able to deliver the superior solutions that MES offers our customers. It’s very satisfying to watch our designs come to life and operate the way we intend them to.”

Prior to arriving at Poseidon in 2009, Jeff worked in home construction, automotive coatings inspection, and as a marine mechanic/rigger. Eventually, he worked in marine propeller design, yacht design, and marine systems engineering. Having grown up boating on the Great Lakes and armed with his master’s degree in Naval Architecture with a focus on Marine Design Analysis, Jeff joined Poseidon and began working on documenting designs and processes. Product development became a large part of the work early on, and his efforts paved the way for a well-documented operation that lent itself well to becoming the first Sectional Barge manufacturer to receive an ISO Certification. The certification validates Poseidon’s commitment to quality, repeatability, and a culture of continual improvement. MES – Poseidon has many unique products and capabilities, but one that stands out is the fact that there are multipleNaval Architects on the staff. “Having Naval Architects, as well as mechanical and civil engineers onboard, adds credibility and competence to everything that we do. It’s a resource for our customers that typically isn’t readily available to them. It creates a safe, complete solutions that increase the chances of a successful customer project.”

Jeff is a native Wolverine. He and his family visit his old stomping grounds in Northern Michigan to enjoy outdoor activities as often as they can. Hiking, exploring, and paddle boarding are some of their favorites when they go on camping trips. Being around the water is in his blood, whether he’s working or relaxing. When asked to describe MES in one sentence, Emch said, “We are just beginning to scratch the surface of what we can become as we integrate collective experiences and knowledge to bring high-value solutions to an evolving industry and marketplace.”
